Non-sectarian, with Lower, Middle, and Upper divisions.
Other grades depend on attrition; seat counts are unpublished.
Most supporting materials follow in January.
The public pages do not state the family reply deadline.
A $2,500 new-student fee and other costs can apply.
Carpool dominates public planning; daily bus service is unclear.
Kidventure fees are separate; there is no Upper School aftercare.
The prior-cycle official profile reports 1,514.
Visits and process
Tour access is broad; evaluation detail is thin
Admission tours run from September through April, although PK and K tours run only in September and October. Open houses and information events give families several ways to see the campus before decisions.↗
Out-of-area Grade 6 and Grade 9 applicants may request online interviews. Families may also request a waiver when distance prevents a required group visit.
Approval standards are not public.↗
International applicants may apply, but Kinkaid does not issue I-20 forms and offers no international-student program. That makes local residency and immigration logistics a family responsibility.↗
The site does not state who reads each file, whether admission is need-blind by grade, how sibling or alumni relationships are considered, or when a late or incomplete application becomes ineligible.↗↗
Academics
Inquiry and explicit skill-building change shape by division
Lower School uses workshops, one-to-one conferences, flexible groups, explicit skills, and differentiated instruction. Art, music, physical education, science, and Spanish specialists widen the day beyond the homeroom.↗
Middle School combines subject knowledge with competencies, interdisciplinary work, and explicit management of time, habits, and emotion. The Grade 6 theme is Exploration, an apt frame for a large transition year.↗
Upper School emphasizes inquiry, application, mastery, and self-advocacy. The live academic page reports average classes of 14 in Upper School and 16 in Middle School, but gives no distribution.↗↗
STEM spans computational thinking, engineering, mathematics, research, and laboratory work. The leadership center adds entrepreneurship, finance, civic engagement, and internships, though access and selection details vary by program.↗↗
Upper School Interim Term suspends regular classes for project-based and experiential courses. The prior profile requires two Interim credits, creating meaningful breadth and potential travel costs.↗↗
Assessment and workload
The academic ceiling is visible; the weekly load is not
The 2025–26 profile uses an 11-point weighted GPA and no class rank. Honors, AP, and College-Level placement requires department recommendation.
AP enrollees must sit for the corresponding exam.↗
Upper students took at least five graded courses, including four academic courses. The profile listed 42 advanced courses: 19 AP, six College-Level, and at least 17 Honors offerings.↗
The advanced-course counts also differ. The live academics page advertises 36 College-Level, AP, and Honors courses, while the prior-cycle profile itemizes 42.
Course labels, counts, or timing may have changed, so ask for the Fall 2027 catalog.↗↗
Current student voice — a March 2026 Falcon opinion connected tests, projects, homework, early office hours, and later activities with sleep pressure. One sophomore’s schedule was illustrative, not a representative workload measure.↗
Kinkaid publishes no current K, Grade 6, or Grade 9 homework averages. Retakes, revisions, late work, assessment clustering, grade distributions, course failure, load reductions, and sleep measures are also not public.↗↗↗
Support and wellness
A visible adult network without a public dosage promise
Every Upper School student keeps one Dean for four years. The Dean acts as advisor, mentor, advocate, and college counselor.
Weekly community groups add another consistent faculty relationship.↗
School counselors address social and mental health, while learning specialists support academic goals. The school says these resources are available to all learners, but it does not define frequency, duration, or eligibility.↗↗
Grade 9 students take Decisions, covering study habits, stress, relationships, social media, depression, resilience, substance use, and healthy sexuality. Peer mentors support the transition.↗
Middle School includes weekly advisory and social-emotional learning. Lower School embeds daily social-emotional work and mindfulness.
These structures show prevention, but they do not establish clinical capacity.↗↗
Boundary — public pages omit counselor and specialist caseloads, session limits, documentation rules, outside-provider coordination, crisis coverage, and fees. They also do not identify learning profiles the school cannot sustainably serve.↗↗
Culture and belonging
Many identity pathways, limited public outcome evidence
Kinkaid is non-sectarian and organizes expectations around honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness. Its student-life page lists cultural, service, academic, leadership, arts, athletics, and LGBTQ+ Awareness groups.↗↗
The nondiscrimination statement includes race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Transgender and gender-nonconforming accommodations are requested through a Division Head, with implementation decided by the school.↗
An expression policy encourages civil discourse while reserving sole appropriateness decisions to the Head or Division Head. The school generally claims institutional neutrality, except when an issue directly affects its mission or operations.↗
A 2026 dispute followed a Palestinian Culture Fest display. CAIR-Texas alleged retaliatory investigation.
The Houston Chronicle reported outgoing Head Jonathan Eades denied pressure to resign. We found no public final report resolving the claims.↗↗
Attributed review context — Niche shows 124 reviews and a 4.3 rating. Visible accounts praise teachers, welcome, and breadth; others allege racism, homophobia, transphobia, or donor influence.
Self-selected reviews cannot establish prevalence.↗
No current public climate survey, discipline distribution, retention analysis, or belonging data by identity appears on the reviewed pages. Ask whose experience improved, whose did not, and what changed afterward.↗↗
Arts and athletics
Breadth is real, but participation can lengthen the day
Arts courses progress from introductory through intermediate and advanced work. Students can pursue music, dance, theatre, visual and media arts, writing, and journalism in classrooms and productions.↗
Public pages do not explain team cuts, playing time, club-sport conflicts, travel expectations, arts casting, rehearsal load, equipment charges, or late transportation. Ask how access differs for beginners and commuting students.↗↗↗
Campus and commute
A major campus inside a carpool-centered daily plan
The 64.5-acre campus sits at 201 Kinkaid School Drive in Piney Point. Families should test the commute at arrival, dismissal, practice, rehearsal, and event times, not only during an admission tour.↗↗
Published logistics center carpool maps and staggered pickup. PK and K dismiss at 2:15, Grades 1–4 at 3:00, Grades 5–6 at 3:15, and Grades 7–8 at 4:00.↗
Upper School lists pickup windows at 2:50, 3:15, and 3:30. Activities can run later.
The reviewed public pages do not identify a daily commuter-bus system or late activity buses.↗↗
The All In campaign scheduled Lower School expansion and dining, student-life, Middle School, and gym work through summer 2026. The live logistics page still warns that construction can alter carpool routes.↗↗
Completion, punch-list work, parking effects, pedestrian routes, and Fall 2026 traffic impacts are not fully documented publicly. Ask what will remain active during the 2027–28 school year.↗
Aftercare and the family day
Care reaches 5:30, with a fee ambiguity to resolve
Kidventure facilitates Lower School care from 2:15 until 5:30 and Middle School care from 3:15 until 5:30. Optional classes are separately enrolled and can fill.↗
The 2026–27 flyer lists 2:15–3:00 care at $40 weekly or $15 daily. It lists 3:00–5:30 care at $95 weekly or $35 daily.↗
The flyer does not clearly state the combined full-afternoon charge. Its 3:00 start also differs from the Middle School’s published 3:15 dismissal, so families should request an invoice example.↗↗↗
There is no public Upper School aftercare. A student combining office hours, athletics, rehearsal, and a cross-city commute may have a considerably longer day than the academic schedule suggests.↗↗
Weather and emergency planning
Houston conditions make current procedures essential
The only detailed emergency guidance we found is old: a 2013 Lower School handbook described early dismissal, shelter in place, web, phone, and media alerts. It also gave parents discretion to keep children home.
These are not verified current procedures.↗
Prior event — student newspaper reporting documented flooding, power loss, and fallen trees after the May 16, 2024 storm. That shows why flood routes, backup power, air conditioning, and reunification deserve practical answers.↗
Current health pages require records and action plans for asthma, diabetes, life-threatening allergies, and seizures. They do not provide the all-school hurricane, flood, heat, air-quality, lockdown, evacuation, or reunification plan.↗
The reviewed pages do not state closure thresholds, generator coverage, bus or carpool contingencies, remote-learning triggers, family alert tests, reunification locations, or makeup rules. Request the current plan before enrollment.↗↗
Tuition and full cost
The published tuition is a baseline, not the whole budget
Current planning baseline — 2026–27 tuition is $32,110 for PK–4, $37,620 for Grades 5–8, and $38,960 for Grades 9–12. Fall 2027 tuition remains unpublished.↗
A mandatory $2,500 new-student fee applies. Tuition includes student fees, educational supplies, photos, publications, gym uniforms, and various programs.
Middle and Upper textbooks are extra.↗
Lunch is extra through a fixed-price or à la carte program. Trip charges arrive later.
Interim experiences can place transportation, lodging, meals, and guide costs on families.↗↗
The $1,500 deposit applies to tuition. Quarterly and monthly plans add a 5% deferral charge, equal to $1,605–$1,948 at current tuition.
Optional tuition-refund insurance costs 0.90%.↗
Fall 2027 tuition, lunch pricing, textbooks, laptop replacement, athletics, arts, travel, extended care, transportation, parking, and parent-event expectations prevent a reliable all-in figure. Build a grade-specific budget with the business office.↗↗
Financial aid
Need-blind language comes with a resource limit
Kinkaid calls admission need-blind and offers only need-based aid. It does not award merit aid.
The Fall 2027 SSS application and required materials are due January 8, 2027.↗↗
The school describes January 8 as a hard deadline and says late or incomplete files will not be considered. The application opens in fall 2026, but no exact opening date is published.↗
Every contracting parent files separately, including separated, divorced, remarried, or never-married parents. Required records include 2025 tax returns, 2026 income documents, December pay stubs, and IRS access through TaxStatus.↗
Important boundary — the school says admission is need-blind, yet available resources may limit grant numbers and sizes. It does not publicly promise to meet every family’s full demonstrated need.↗↗
No public aid budget, recipient percentage, average grant, need-met rate, or award date appears on the reviewed pages. Incidental support varies by grade and grant percentage, but exact eligible costs are unpublished.↗↗
Entry points
K, Grade 6, and Grade 9 are planned doors, not quantified odds
Kinkaid identifies PK, K, Grade 6, and Grade 9 as natural entry points. These are planned intake years.
The school does not publish the size of each expansion or Fall 2027 seat availability.↗↗
Grades 1–5, 7–8, and 10–12 may accept students only when attrition creates room. An application is therefore procedurally eligible, but availability can be zero or very small.↗
Public pages provide no applicant, offer, enrollment, yield, sibling, legacy, employee-child, aid-request, or entry-grade data. We found no defensible public acceptance rate for the school or any division.↗↗
Use K, Grade 6, and Grade 9 as structural signals, not promises. Ask for recent applications, offers, enrollments, and returning-cohort sizes by grade before assigning the school a place on your odds ladder.↗
Kindergarten admissions
K requires two assessments, a group visit, and an early application
The K application is due September 18, 2026. It requires the online application, a teacher recommendation, a group visit, CATS-administered WPPSI testing, and an Academic Testing Services achievement assessment.↗↗
Published application and testing fees total $564: $150 for Kinkaid, $325 for CATS, and $89 for Academic Testing Services. The CATS deadline is December 13; the remaining file is due January 13.↗
K decisions are scheduled for March 5, 2027. The public site does not explain assessment weighting, group-visit activities, parent participation, accommodations, or the family reply deadline.↗↗
Two official pages give slightly different Kindergarten birthday rules. The Apply page says a child must be five by July 1 and not six before June 1, while the FAQ says five before July 1.
Confirm exact birthday eligibility in writing.↗↗
PK follows a different timeline and omits the achievement test. It requires a group visit, developmental assessment, WPPSI, and teacher recommendation.
Grades 6 and 9
The same core file serves two distinct transitions
Grade 6 and Grade 9 applications are due December 2, 2026. Applicants submit a student essay, ISEE, two prior academic years, fall grades, and recommendations from English, mathematics, an administrator, and a special-interest adult.↗↗
Both grades require an interview. The public fees total $320 before travel or preparation: a $150 school application and the listed $170 ISEE registration.↗
Kinkaid hosts the ISEE on December 5. Early registration ends November 13 and late registration ends November 20.
Applicants must submit Kinkaid’s application by November 20 to use that sitting.↗
Recommendations, transcript, and score are due January 11, 2027. Decisions arrive March 5.
Kinkaid also permits an optional arts or athletics supplement, separate from the required special-interest recommendation.↗↗
Kinkaid offers unusual range, but fit lives in the operating details
The published program is persuasive because it joins demanding academics with arts, athletics, leadership, wellbeing, and long-term relationships. K, Grade 6, and Grade 9 also give families three recognizable transition moments.
Our confidence is high about public requirements, deadlines, current tuition, program design, and major evidence gaps. It is lower about daily workload, support intensity, belonging, transportation, emergency execution, and safeguarding because comparable current data are not public.
