Catholic formation is part of the timetable, not an optional club

Founded by Dominican sisters in 1905, St. Agnes now operates within a sponsorship and governance structure that includes Dominican Veritas Ministries, Dominican Trustees, a school Board of Directors, and a separate foundation.

Public pages do not fully map how canonical and civil authority divide every reserved power, so we would not simplify that structure into a conventional ownership label.

Students complete four theology credits and at least 100 hours of service. Grade-level retreats, liturgies, optional Thursday Mass and confession, prayer, and service with people who are poor or vulnerable make the religious identity operational.

About 35% of students are reported as non-Catholic, but non-Catholic does not mean religiously neutral.

Grades 10 and 11 remain possible, but the public instructions are incomplete

St. Agnes accepts applications for Grades 10 and 11 and does not accept senior transfers.

It asks for current English and mathematics recommendations, records from the prior two grades and current semester, and a PSAT, SAT, or ISEE score by February 1. The school publishes no expected openings by grade.

The transfer page lists January 14, 2027 for recommendations and records but truncates the school year and does not clearly state the application deadline. The admissions profile uses December 15 as the general application deadline.

Treat that as the working date and confirm it in writing. A transfer also needs a credit audit for theology, service, language, and graduation sequencing before enrollment.

Breadth is real; access to the most advanced path is managed

The 26-credit graduation program includes four years each of English, mathematics, science, and theology, plus history, world language, fine arts, physical education, health, communications, service, and electives. Students normally carry at least six credits each year, and physics is required in Grade 11 or 12.

The current profile lists 13 honors and 28 AP courses, with a maximum of four honors or AP courses in one year. Advanced enrollment can be competitive and capacity-limited, and prerequisites use prior grades, recommendations, assessments, and departmental judgment.

Incoming students take mathematics placement; additional science or language assessments can apply.

The coed windows matter most when the timetable actually opens

St. Agnes and Strake sit next door on Bellaire Boulevard.

Current materials identify cross-enrolled courses and joint or connected work in band, orchestra, mixed chorus, theater, dance, and robotics. The practical experience differs by program: mixed chorus is auditioned, band rehearses at Strake around 7 a.m., orchestra seating reflects skill, and competitive roles are not evenly distributed.

For one girl, these programs may provide exactly enough coeducational academic and social life. For another, they may feel peripheral to the all-girls core.

Ask the student to map her likely freshman timetable, rehearsals, movement between campuses, and actual eligibility rather than evaluating a list of shared offerings in the abstract.

Mainstream counseling and limited accommodations are not intensive remediation

The Wellness Center supports transition, stress, relationships, self-esteem, and referrals. The Student Success Center offers individual consultation around organization, time management, test preparation, self-advocacy, and executive function.

Freshman Seminar and a counselor who stays with the student through sophomore year add transition structure.

The school describes accommodations as dependent on its capacity and discretion and says they cannot fundamentally alter the program. Its public list includes extended time, a testing center, preferential seating, note-taking help, direct answer marking, and a four-function calculator, although the same page inconsistently calls these five accommodations.

The posted external-testing deadlines are stale.

Our interpretation is that St. Agnes is built for mainstream counseling and bounded accommodations, not comprehensive special education, speech/language therapy, or intensive remediation.

A family needing more should request a case-specific written plan: provider, frequency, group size, class missed, progress measure, cost, and what the school will not do.

Opportunity is broad, but participation still has gates

Students complete a fine-arts credit and can pursue visual art, design, photography, film, dance, choir, band, orchestra, and theater. Beginners have genuine entry points in some visual courses, while ensembles, productions, chair placement, and competitive dance can involve auditions, casting, skill, travel, extra studio work, and additional cost.

Athletics reports 12 sports, 36 teams, and more than 500 students playing at least one sport. Teams require tryouts; no no-cut policy is published.

In-season commitments can reach six days a week, practices commonly run 1.5 to 2 hours, and a $150 fee applies per sport. Ask how many freshmen tried out, made, and regularly played—not simply whether the sport exists.

Ask for the current handbook instead of assuming the linked PDFs tell the whole story

The publicly linked sexual-harassment policy prohibits harassment, provides reporting and appeal steps, and bars retaliation. Its metadata and embedded title appear tied to a 2009 handbook, and its administrative labels look dated.

This is a transparency concern—not proof that the school lacks current procedures. Ask for the live handbook, safeguarding lead, abuse-reporting chain, interim supports, external escalation route, and procedure when a report involves senior leadership.

A policy created in 2022 says the school values every person’s dignity and intends to support LGBTQ people while also applying Catholic teaching to same-sex activity and medical gender transition. For an LGBTQ applicant—especially a transgender student—this is a material fit question.

Seek specific written answers about names, pronouns, uniform, facilities, athletics, records, counseling, pastoral care, and how harassment is handled in practice.

Other published inconsistencies include the aid deadline, incomplete transfer instructions, an undisclosed enrollment fee, stale laptop and accommodation dates, and missing participation denominators in outcomes. None proves poor education.

Together they justify careful written follow-up before a family signs a contract.

The published tuition is not the complete price—and the drive can shape access

The 2026–27 tuition is $28,400. Published additions include a $75 freshman application, $125 transfer application, $500 deposit, $105 per AP course, $150 per sport, and a senior fee.

An enrollment fee is required but not priced publicly; the last posted laptop figure belongs to 2025–26. Books, uniforms, meals, transportation, retreats, travel, and optional programs can add more.

St. Agnes reports more than $3.04 million in need-based aid and 21% of students receiving aid for 2026–27.

One current profile lists both December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027 as the Fall 2027 aid deadline. Submit by the earlier date if possible and ask the school to confirm the controlling deadline in writing.

The campus is about 13 miles from downtown, and the day begins at 8 a.m.; some shared music and athletic obligations begin near 7 a.m. No current comprehensive bus or shuttle plan surfaced in the reviewed materials.

Drive the route at early arrival and late pickup, then ask about carpools, parking, Strake movement, storm closures, and the actual end time of the student’s activities.

The school publishes the file, but not the odds or a test cutoff

For Fall 2027, the application is due December 15, 2026; current Grade 8 English and mathematics recommendations, transcripts, attendance, discipline, and work-habit records are due January 15; ISEE scores are due February 1; and decisions arrive March 5. The file also includes the student application and essay.

St. Agnes calls its review holistic and says successful applicants typically show an above-average pattern.

It does not publish a minimum GPA, ISEE cutoff, applicant count, acceptance rate, or offered-seat count. Accepted-student guidance connecting stanines 8 and 9 with likely honors placement is placement evidence—not an admission threshold.

No interview appears in the public requirements. Visits and student-host programs exist, but the school does not say they are evaluative.

Ask directly rather than preparing a child for an invented interview. For the essay, our advice is to use one concrete moment that shows curiosity, responsibility, service, or changed thinking; copying Dominican vocabulary will sound much less convincing than lived detail.

This is our judgment, not a published scoring rule.

Athletes and artists should explain practice, feedback, contribution, and setbacks without assuming recruitment. St.

Agnes publishes no athletic recruiting route or general portfolio requirement. Admission does not guarantee a team, ensemble, cast, dance spot, or advanced arts placement.

Our read

Choose St. Agnes for the all-girls Dominican center, not as a compromise between girls’ and coed schools

The strongest version of this choice is a girl who wants women to hold the center of classroom and leadership life, welcomes a substantial Catholic framework, and likes having selected coed academic and extracurricular windows next door.

The school’s size, advanced program, Community Time, arts, sports, service, and Strake relationship can create an unusually broad high-school week.

We would slow down when a family treats faith as scenery, assumes Strake makes the school half-coed, needs intensive learning services, expects automatic access to advanced courses or competitive activities, or has a commute that breaks under a 7 a.m. rehearsal.

LGBTQ families should evaluate the published policy through concrete day-to-day questions rather than general assurances.
