Learning
Learning that connects
Every winter, Middle School students spend three weeks in MiniTerm, taking intensive courses alongside students from other grades. Forensics, Greek Theater, Optical Illusions and Engineering are among the offerings.
The last two hours each day go to the musical or to electives that need a longer block, so the weeks make room for more than a show.
Younger students get their own version. Fourth and fifth graders stage a musical with acting, singing and dancing, working from theater games through scenes and lines to a live audience.
In Grade 3, science and social studies meet at the Hudson River. Students run experiments on the compost cycle and water properties, ask what fish and other animals need to thrive, and look at how people have shaped the river’s health.
They also design green-roof prototypes and study Lenape practices, according to the 2025 program guide.
By Upper School, science comes in pairs. The three-year coordinated program covers two sciences a year, and the 2025 guide pairs chemistry with physics in Grade 9, then chemistry with biology, then biology with physics.
It is designed to show how the sciences connect, and the program also ties in with math.
The AI rule is clear. Lower and Middle School students may not use it for school tasks; Upper School students may use it only when a teacher directs it for a specific assignment, through the school’s Gemini account.
Applying
Applying for Fall 2027
Lower School families book a tour, an adult meeting and a child visit after applying. Pre-K and Kindergarten visits are small-group sessions of about 50–60 minutes.
Kindergarten applicants must turn five by Sept. 1, and Pre-K applicants four.
Grades 1–5 are attrition-based entry points; Trevor schedules a visit if it expects an opening. The same page gives both Feb. 22 and Feb. 24 as the Threes and Pre-K decision date, so confirm which applies.
Applicants to Grades 6–12 complete a required interview and campus visit of about two hours. Appointments are limited and can fill before the deadline, so register soon after applying.
The parent statement and student questionnaire are due Dec. 1.
Parents may write the statement in French or Spanish.
The rest of the file is two years of transcripts, separate recommendations from current English and math teachers, and, for Grades 9–12, an essay. Ask for recommendations after Nov. 15, even if one teacher covers every subject, as can happen for Grade 6 applicants.
Grades 6–12 applicants also need ISEE or SSAT results from the academic year they apply; Trevor has no preference.
Early notification is only for current families and alumni.
Cost and aid
Costs and aid
Tuition for 2026–27 includes meals, books, supplies and trips; a laptop is extra in Grades 3–12. Threes and Pre-K sit at the low end, and Kindergarten jumps $27,000, to $67,500.
Aid is need-based, awarded as a percentage of tuition, and open from Threes through Grade 12. It can also help with the laptop, travel and most AfterSchool programs.
Request aid with the first application: answer yes to the aid question and email tuitionassistance@trevor.org for a code that waives the $75 application fee. Families who enroll without aid cannot receive it later.
Aid also needs a Clarity application by Jan. 1, 2027, separate from the admission deadline; Trevor says the Clarity fee cannot be waived.
Separated or divorced parents each file in Clarity, and partners, step-parents and non-custodial parents add financial information. Families must reapply every year; a missed deadline can cost the award.
School day
Before and after school
Arrival opens at 7:30 a.m., with free supervised Lower School drop-off and free breakfast for Middle and Upper School students. Their common rooms stay supervised until 6:00 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 5:00 p.m. Friday.
Encore, the paid Lower School after-school program for Threes through Grade 5, runs 3:00–6:00 p.m., with supervised Homework Time for Grades 2–5 unless parents opt out. Its fee table lists prices per trimester while the billing text says semester, so confirm billing.
Aid applies at your tuition percentage.
A private shuttle links the two campuses morning and afternoon. Threes and Pre-K children ride with a parent or caregiver; Kindergarteners and older ride independently or with a buddy.
From Fall 2026 an added route runs along York Avenue to 72nd Street. No fare is listed; confirm the cost.
Eligible Kindergarten–Grade 6 students on existing routes can use Department of Education yellow buses.
Support
Help and access
Lower School has reading specialists, a math specialist and a general learning specialist who work with small groups and individuals. In Middle and Upper School, support meets one or two periods per ten-day cycle.
Advisors, teachers or families can start a referral, and each campus has a full-time psychologist.
Middle and Upper School teachers keep desks around the edges of common rooms, with student study tables in the middle, and share those rooms with students when not in class. That makes teacher access visible, though not constant.
How the week may feel
Trevor’s distinctive learning is built on connection: students of different ages in MiniTerm, a local river studied from several angles, sciences taught in pairs.
Picture your own child in a winter week that changes shape, and notice whether that sounds energizing or tiring.
Science, support and shuttles at Trevor Day
Ask which science units and MiniTerm options your child would see, how support works day to day, and how shuttle times fit the afternoon.
Worth asking directly
- Which science units and MiniTerm options will my child see this year?
- How would learning support work day to day for my child, and who would we work with?
- How do afternoon shuttle times fit Encore, homework and our commute?
