This page is the calendar: what happens when, school by school. For entry grades, which tests each school uses, what goes in the file, interviews, and how to weigh an offer, see the Atlanta private school admissions guide.
The shared decision day helps—but it can hide the season’s real complexity.
Atlanta parents can compare many private answers together on April 3. That is genuinely family-friendly. The mistake is assuming the shared finish creates a shared race. Schools work hard to know children in different ways, and every family still needs a line-by-line calendar.
One family calendar, every exception
Put these dates on the wall first.
| Date | Family work |
|---|---|
| September | Reserve JATP; register visits; start current psychoeducational testing when relevant. |
| October 1 | Most private applications open. Woodward aid and Fulton Innovation Academy Grade 9 also open. |
| December 1 | Many teacher forms may finally be requested; displayed Rabun Gap early-decision date needs cycle confirmation. |
| January 9 | Marist and Wesleyan host testing; Marist calls this the last likely first-score date for its file. |
| January 15 | Westminster, Trinity, and Marist applications; Westminster and Trinity aid. Confirm Westminster’s support-item date because its FAQ still labels that date as 2026. |
| January 20–30 | Wesleyan application (January 20), Marist supplements and aid, TCS’s displayed application deadline, Galloway’s application, and Pace/HIES final accepted standard SSAT date. |
| February 1 | Pace, Lovett, Woodward, HIES, Paideia, and Heritage applications; several aid files. |
| February 5–15 | Walker, TCS, Galloway, Heritage, Pace, Lovett, and HIES supplements or aid; Wesleyan’s JATP and SSAT deadline (February 6). Paideia’s full-day file is due February 1. |
| February 19–March 5 | Trinity forms; Whitefield; GAC; Lovett, AIS, Wesleyan, and St. Pius aid; Heritage tax documents. |
| April 2–3 | Mailed and electronic AAAIS decisions; most matching aid awards. |
| April 13 | Dominant private-school reply and contract deadline. |
| April–August | Rolling, relocation, wait-pool, and specialist-school work continues where space remains. |
AAAIS publishes mailed decisions April 2, electronic decisions April 3, and parent replies April 13. That backbone applies to general-purpose member schools. It does not establish an unstated application, aid, specialist, public, or boarding deadline.
Testing, visits, and teacher forms
Book the appointments before the application rush.
For Kindergarten, families schedule JATP directly, and useful appointments begin filling in September and October. Paideia and TCS do not use JATP, so their visits follow each school's own schedule.
For Grades 6 and 9, count back from the last score each school will take. Marist calls January 9 the last likely first-score date for its file, and Pace and HIES accept a standard SSAT through January 30. HIES schedules its on-campus evaluations by grade in January and February. Which schools use JATP, SSAT, or their own evaluation is set out in the admissions guide.
Teacher-release timing is another gate. Several schools ask families to wait until December 1, while Trinity uses January 1 for certain records and forms. Authorize the request early, but tell the current school when the receiving school permits transmission.
Current anchors and unresolved pages
Use the confirmed dates and turn missing ones into calls.
| School | Application / supplements | Aid | Watch item |
|---|---|---|---|
| Westminster | Jan. 15 / confirm support-item date | Jan. 15 | Main Fall 2027 table says Jan. 15; a FAQ still labels its Jan. 30 support deadline as 2026. Late files are wait-pool only. |
| Marist | Jan. 15 / Jan. 22 | Jan. 29 | Grade 7 and 9; no interview listed. |
| Wesleyan | Jan. 20 / JATP or SSAT Feb. 6 | Mar. 1 | Aid uses SSS. |
| Pace | Feb. 1 / Feb. 15 | Feb. 15 | Last standard SSAT Jan. 30. |
| Lovett | Feb. 1 / Feb. 15 | Mar. 1 | No Grade 2 applications for 2027–28. |
| Woodward | Feb. 1 | Feb. 1 | Main page confirms April 3 decision. |
| HIES | Feb. 1 / Feb. 15 | Feb. 1 | K and older grades use different routes. |
| Walker | Feb. 5 / Feb. 26 | Feb. 5 | Late review after March if space. |
| AIS | Current public date unknown | Mar. 1 | Rolling review; admission page still mixes older cycles. Aid recommends Feb. 15 readiness and complete visibility by Mar. 1. |
| Paideia | Jan. 4 half-day / Feb. 1 full-day | Same application deadline | Half-day families choose early February or common April notification; current page also retains old-cycle wording. |
| Galloway | Jan. 30 / Feb. 12 | Feb. 12 | Pre-K has a separate Jan. 25 early route. |
| Trinity | Jan. 15 / Feb. 19 | Jan. 15 | Age 3–Grade 6 only; early preschool dates differ. |
| TCS | Jan. 29 / confirm checklist date | Feb. 12 on core steps | The live page shows Jan. 29 in its FAQ but Feb. 12 for forms; save the portal checklist. |
| Mount Vernon | Current public date unknown | Unknown | Live pages retain prior-cycle dates. |
Woodward confirms the February 1 application and April 3 decision on its main page. AIS explicitly offers rolling and virtual review, but its public admission calendar still shows older dates. Missing does not mean optional.
Public answers follow different clocks
A five-day public offer can arrive before private decisions—or months after them.
Fall 2027 APS dates remain unpublished. The prior cycle produced open-enrollment offers from late February into May, with five calendar days to accept. Atlanta Classical’s Grade K lottery fills a planned cohort, while later grades mainly fill attrition; its current information sessions are public, but application dates are not.
Drew’s prior lottery resolved in May, after April private contracts. Fulton Innovation Academy opens October 1 for eligible rising Grade 9 students, but has not published the closing or lottery dates.
When the ideal plan slips
A missed gate needs a recovery tree, not wishful calendar math.
First ask whether the school will accept the missing item, place the child in a wait pool, or consider a late file only after on-time applicants. Ask the aid office separately; an open seat does not mean an open aid budget. Save the answer, the contract deadline, and the amount at risk in one place.
If testing is late, identify schools that accept an alternative current score, ordinary school testing, or their own evaluation. If the private list fails, keep the zoned public school, APS transfer or charter, district magnet, and a credible current-school return active. A May public offer can be worth more than an April private deposit, but only after the private withdrawal clause is understood.
For a late relocation, call rolling schools, specialist programs, and nearby boarding schools with four questions in the same email: exact grade capacity, remaining aid, remote steps, and the date the contract becomes binding. Do not let “we welcome applications” stand in for a usable seat.
An old date is a question, not a shortcut.
AIS, Mount Vernon, Rabun Gap, Cristo Rey, specialist aid pages, APS, and several charter or magnet paths still expose prior-cycle or incomplete calendars. Email the office, save the written answer, and mark it “school confirmed.” That is more useful than false precision.
