Test the exact campus, bus stop, and late-day route

These are not two entrances to the same daily routine

Main Campus is at 1662 Rugby Avenue in College Park. It serves Pre-K through Grade 12 and sits about eight miles from downtown Atlanta, according to the school profile.

Woodward North is at 6565 Boles Road in Johns Creek. Its campus page now describes Pre-K through Grade 7, with students moving to Main Campus for Grades 8–12.

Some school menus still list North as Pre-K–6, so confirm the grades North will serve in 2027–28.

Woodward advertises a complimentary Campus Connect shuttle between North and Main. Families should still confirm the 2027 route, supervision, travel time, eligibility, and what happens after an activity runs late.

Book the division you need, then ask what the visit cannot show

Woodward offers personal guided tours and welcomes the child. One time slot covers only one school: North, Primary, Lower, Middle, or Upper.

Families visiting more than one division should contact admissions.

A tour can show buildings and some transitions. It cannot establish classroom pace, homework, social ease, support responsiveness, or bus reality.

Ask to see a normal schedule and recent work from your child's grade.

A dated Atlanta admissions article reported interviews for Grades 6–12 with at least one parent. That is useful historical context, not a Fall 2027 rule.

Woodward's current public pages do not confirm interview grades, format, length, or scoring.

The school mixes inquiry with a visibly tiered Upper School

Primary School names Responsive Classroom and SEE Learning in its approach. Lower School describes inquiry and critical skills.

Its seven-day rotation includes two STEAM days, with coding, engineering, and 3D printing appearing across Grades 4–6.

Middle School publishes an average class size of 14. It offers Transition Prep, College Prep, Enriched Prep, and Honors Prep levels.

The label may vary by subject, so ask how initial and later placement work.

Upper School offers College Prep, Enriched College Prep, Honors Prep, and Advanced Placement courses. Students can change tracks, and a grade-level counselor helps build the four-year plan.

The 2025–26 profile says AP enrollment needs teacher and department approval. Juniors and seniors may take no more than five AP courses a year.

Fewer than 4% graduate with eight to ten AP courses.

The younger day is easy to see, while homework remains hard to quantify

At Main Primary, free morning care begins at 7 a.m., homeroom starts at 8, classes begin at 8:20, and dismissal is at 3. Aftercare runs until 6, subject to registration and cost.

Woodward North starts supervised morning care at 7 and homeroom at 8. Pre-K and Kindergarten dismiss at 2:30.

Grades 1–7 dismiss at 3, and aftercare continues until 6.

Upper students carry seven classes each semester, with five meeting on a rotating day. The schedule includes two tutorial opportunities, a study hall or free period, and lunch-time clubs.

Athletics begin after 3:45.

Middle School says homework should be meaningful, but time varies by habits, skills, and course load. Woodward publishes no grade-level homework range, weekend expectation, assessment calendar, or sleep data.

Grade 9 has a formal welcome, but belonging takes more than orientation

All ninth graders and students new to Woodward attend a full-day Upper School orientation. Older peer mentors join the process, and each student has an advisor and grade-level counselor.

Those are useful structures. Ask how often advisor groups meet, who notices missed work or social withdrawal, and how quickly a family hears.

Request newcomer retention and transfer data by entry grade.

Self-selected Niche reviews praise opportunity, teachers, activities, and transport. Other recent reviewers raise questions about workload, cliques, belonging, leadership, and academic-level movement.

These are interview prompts, not representative findings.

The Transition program is substantial and narrower than a general promise of support

Woodward's Transition Learning Support Program serves Grades 2–8. In Grades 2–6, students learn the college-preparatory curriculum in self-contained classes averaging ten.

They join mainstream peers for arts, music, and physical education.

In Grades 7–8, participation can be subject by subject. Transition classes average 10 to 12 and include daily tutorials.

Upper School students move into mainstream classes and may use the Learning Support Center.

Admission requires a documented diagnosis, average or above cognitive ability, grade-level skill in some areas, and an interview with the program director. The initial psychoeducational evaluation must be no more than two years old.

Woodward says many students remain in Transition for about three years. It does not publish capacity, applications, acceptance, progress, exits, later outcomes, or a service guarantee for a particular child.

Mainstream accommodations and clinical care are separate questions

Woodward identifies counselors, psychologists, tutorials, and academic support across divisions. Public pages do not state caseloads, wait times, session frequency, crisis coverage, confidentiality rules, or the boundary between school support and outside care.

A private-school support plan is not the same as a public-school IEP entitlement. Bring current documentation and ask what Woodward will deliver, by whom, how often, in which classes, and at whose cost.

For Transition, ask whether financial aid applies to the additional charge. Also ask who pays for evaluations, outside therapy, assistive technology, tutoring, and services the school cannot provide.

Woodward offers real transport, but your route still needs a live test

Woodward runs regional buses with Wi-Fi, USB ports, cameras, air conditioning, and tracking. Its stop finder is more useful than a generic service-area claim.

Families should test the current stop at school-day times.

A school shuttle links Main Campus and the College Park MARTA station in the morning and afternoon. MARTA itself is public transport and is not run by Woodward.

The station is about one mile from campus.

A late bus leaves at 6:10 p.m. The school says a student who misses it calls home. Ask whether the late route reaches your area, what supervision exists while waiting, and which activities end too late.

The 2025–26 profile counted families from 28 counties and 142 ZIP codes. That reach is impressive.

It can also make friendships and parent community harder when classmates live far apart.

Breadth is a real strength, but access may involve cuts and costs

Arts begin with music, dance, visual art, and ceramics in the younger grades. Middle and Upper students can pursue visual and performing arts in dedicated facilities and named courses.

Woodward's current pages conflict between 18 and 19 varsity sports, while the Upper School says all teams use tryouts. Families should ask about the Fall 2027 roster, cuts, practice times, travel, fees, and off-season expectations.

Maymester adds choice and another set of practical questions

The academic profile says Upper School students take part in Maymester. A school article describes local field trips, intensive topics, and travel courses.

Middle School offered 24 courses in 2025.

The school also advertises global travel. Public pages do not show Fall 2027 course choices, prices, selection, aid, required participation, or an equivalent path for a student who cannot travel.

The posted price is clear, and it is not the whole family budget

For 2026–27, tuition is $25,390 for Pre-K, $29,950 for Kindergarten, $32,450 for Grades 1–6, and $37,950 for Grades 7–12. Fall 2027 tuition has not been published.

A nonrefundable $3,500 deposit is applied to tuition. Lunch is included for every grade.

Books are included through Grade 6, while Grade 7–12 book costs vary by course and format.

Woodward estimates about $500 for a new student's uniforms. Current bus pricing is about $2,420 per semester round trip or $1,625 one way.

The Transition program adds up to $13,500.

The tuition page lists aftercare at $10 an hour. Division pages still show $7 an hour in places.

This published conflict is a reason to request the Fall 2027 fee sheet and contract before budgeting.

Aid begins in Grade 4, which changes the early-years decision

Woodward offers need-based aid for Grades 4–12. It does not offer aid for Pre-K through Grade 3 or for international students.

The school says it does not award merit or athletic scholarships.

The Fall 2027 aid application opens October 1 and is due February 1 through Clarity. Woodward plans to release aid decisions with enrollment decisions on April 3.

Woodward says most awards cover less than half of tuition. It does not publish aid applications, recipients by grade, award distribution, unmet need, renewal changes, or coverage of bus, Transition, trips, and activities.

All three grades are possible, but Woodward has not published the seat counts

Kindergarten is available at Main Campus and Woodward North. A child must turn five before the first school day in August.

The school does not publish the number of Fall 2027 openings at either campus.

Grade 6 is offered in the Main Campus Lower School and at Woodward North. It may be a practical entry year, but the public site does not call it an expansion grade or separate new seats from attrition.

Grade 9 begins Upper School. Woodward says every ninth grader is new to that division, but many are continuing students.

The school does not publish the number of new-to-Woodward ninth graders.

Applications may be possible in other grades. Do not confuse an application option with an available seat.

Ask admissions for openings, applications, offers, enrolled newcomers, and wait-pool movement by campus and grade.

The dates are public, while the grade-by-grade work is still behind the portal

Tour registration opens September 1, 2026. Applications and financial-aid forms open October 1.

Both are due February 1, 2027. Woodward plans to release decisions April 3 and requires replies by April 13.

The application runs through Veracross. As of September 1, Woodward has not published the domestic checklist for each grade.

Treat transcripts, evaluations, essays, testing, and interviews as unknown until the portal opens.

The international-student page lists separate Upper School materials. These include TOEFL results, an online interview, and optional SSAT results.

That page does not establish the process for a domestic applicant.

Wait for the current checklist before booking an exam

Woodward does not currently post a domestic Fall 2027 test requirement by grade. Niche lists an SSAT and an interview, but its school profile is not the admissions authority.

Our read

Woodward is compelling when breadth and regional reach solve a real family problem

Woodward's strongest case is not a single signature program. It is the combination of two starting campuses, four academic levels in later grades, extensive activities, regional transportation, and a defined Transition program.

The same scale asks more of families. A child needs a clear route to adults, friends, an appropriate course level, and a sustainable afternoon.

North families also need to plan the move to Main Campus before it arrives.
